Welcome to a new frontier in public health research.

The Non-Medical Health Factors (NMHFs) Data Ecosystem is a strategic blueprint for a virtual research environment designed to tackle one of the most complex challenges in modern medicine: understanding how non-medical factors like economic status, education, and physical environment impact health outcomes. Our platform, an evolution of the existing Virtual Research Environment (VRE) at Georgetown University's Innovation Center for Biomedical Informatics (ICBI), serves as a central hub for researchers.

Our goal is simple yet revolutionary: to provide a secure, scalable, and intuitive environment where broad, population-level NMHF data can be directly correlated with granular, patient-level clinical data. This unique fusion is designed to enable a new class of translational science research, allowing investigators to move beyond simple correlations and explore the causal mechanisms by which social and environmental factors influence individual patient health.

Our Platform

The Virtual Research Environment (VRE)

The VRE is the foundational cloud-based infrastructure that powers the NMHF Data Ecosystem. Built on the cloud and supported by a CTSA supplement grant, our VRE offers a secure, multi-mission platform for research, education, and data sharing that aligns with the NIH's Strategic Plan for Data Science.
